Common Urgent Electrical Problems

Safety Switch Tripping

A safety switch that keeps tripping is telling you something is wrong. We'll find the fault and fix it — not just reset it and hope for the best.

🔌
No Power to Circuits

Entire rooms, outdoor areas, or circuits with no power. We diagnose and restore — usually the same visit.

💡
Flickering or Dead Lights

Persistent flickering often points to a loose connection or failing component. Not just annoying — it can be a fire risk if left.

🔥
Hot or Discoloured Outlets

A power point that's warm to touch, discoloured, or has a burning smell is a serious fault. Stop using it and call us.

💧
Water and Electrical Issues

After flooding, leaks near wiring, or water entering light fittings — get it assessed before using any electrical in the affected area.

🏠
Pre-Purchase or Rental Faults

New property, new problems? We diagnose and quote on any electrical faults found in a recently purchased or leased property.

What to Do (and Not Do) Before We Arrive

While you're waiting for us — or deciding whether to call us — here's what we'd suggest:

  • Don't try to fix it yourself. Electrical work on mains circuits in Queensland must be done by a licensed electrician. This isn't red tape — it's genuinely dangerous work.
  • Turn off the affected circuit at the switchboard if it's safe to do so.
  • Unplug appliances from affected power points while you wait.
  • Don't use water near any suspected electrical fault — including switching off any circuit that runs through a wet area.
  • If there's a burning smell, evacuate and call 000. Better to overreact than not.

Who to Call

Urgent Electrical FAQ

Do you do after-hours callouts?
Call Steve directly on 0423 181 744. We do our best to help with urgent electrical issues — being local to Sunrise Beach means we're often available when bigger companies aren't. We can't promise same-day attendance for every request, but for genuine problems we make every effort.
My safety switch keeps tripping — is this an emergency?
It depends. If it trips once and stays on, it might be a faulty appliance — try unplugging everything and resetting it one circuit at a time. If it trips repeatedly even with nothing plugged in, or if it won't stay on at all, there's a wiring fault that needs diagnosing. Call us.
I've lost power to part of my house — is it my problem or the network's?
Check your switchboard first — if a circuit breaker or safety switch has tripped, it's likely an internal fault (call us). If your whole street is out or your meter box looks undisturbed, it may be a network fault — call Energex on 13 62 62. If you're unsure, call us and we'll help you figure it out.
There's a burning smell near a power point — what do I do?
Stop using that power point immediately. If it's safe, turn off the circuit at the switchboard. If the smell is strong or you can see discolouration or smoke, evacuate and call 000. Once it's safe, call us — a burning power point is a fault that needs replacing, not resetting.
